Treasure Hunters | ZX spectrum Next
A downloadable game for Windows
One day, Captain Clown Nose finds himself on a desert island, where he stumbles upon a tall palm tree. Under which, he discovers a huge treasure chest. Though sadly for him, he also discovers that the chest is sealed tight with a huge lock.
Trying in vain to open the lock with his sabre, he decides there’s only one thing for it…
A bomb should do the trick! He carefully placed the bomb under the chest, waited a few seconds, and then…
BOOM! The chest blew open, scattered its treasures all over the island!

"Treasure Hunters" is a platform game, maybe a bit simple, but fun. Please note that this review is for the Spectrum Next version.
You are a pirate who wants to obtain all the gems which are scattered over the world. OK, fine, but I think that a few indications and tips along the game, for example, in the signs you encounter (pirate flags, pieces of ships, etc) would have vastly improved the playability, as the maps are huge. The most impatient players might get bored after some minutes walking, only getting gems and fighting the same 2-3 enemies, without finding anything a bit different, nor any guide of where to go, or something that explain the main objectives (get abilities to reach new zones).
The game requires you to find key items, which allows player to reach previously unexplored areas. For example, by making double jumps, or breathing underwater. However, and to my surprise, those special items aren't marked on the map, which IMHO is a flaw, as many times the player doesn't know where to go and keeps walking around the huge maps without a clue. Again, signals or tips regarding this localizations would have been great, as they would give the player a clear objetive, and a reason to continue playing, to get the announced "new ability" that lies ahead.
Still, with the mentioned little problems, the game is very good. The graphics are a delight, very cartoonish; music and FX are exceptional, specially the chiptunes, which sound great; and the playability is maybe a bit basic, but also catchy, specially if you have the patience to find the new abilities. The giant bosses are also great, but some kind of intro or presentation would have made them more charismatic to the player. So, there may be still room to improve it, but overall it's a very good title, which deserves to be in the list of the best platform games for the Spectrum Next.
Or you could, you know.... actually support the dev...
This is a lovely game, really enjoy it.
Hey there! I am really enjoying this game, but would like to use a kempston joystick to play.
Fire button 1 is jump, and fire button 2 is show the map, so I am unable to use my sword.
Is there any chance there could be an option to have up as jump and fire button 1 as sword?
Thanks for a great game!
Never mind, discovered how to re-map the controls using the Next menus…
Awesome demo ! Full game of your preview.
